Real Backyard Mornings: Birds & Squirrels at the Fence Feeder
Some of the most peaceful moments in our day happen before the world fully wakes up. The air is still, the light is soft, and the backyard begins to quietly come alive.
Lately, our mornings have been filled with cardinals, blue jays, and squirrels stopping by the fence feeder for breakfast, each moving at their own pace, sharing the same space. Watching these moments unfold has reminded us that real backyard life doesn’t need to be perfect to be beautiful.
A Different Way to Experience Backyard Feeding
Fence-mounted feeders offer a unique perspective compared to traditional hanging feeders. Instead of swaying from a branch, they create a stable, accessible feeding space that birds and squirrels naturally approach throughout the morning.
We’ve noticed that different visitors use the feeder in different ways.
Cardinals tend to settle in calmly and linger, while blue jays arrive quickly, grab a bite, and move on.
Woodpeckers often stop by with purpose, clinging comfortably as they feed, while smaller birds like chickadees, tufted titmice, juncos, and other songbirds weave in throughout the morning.
Squirrels come and go on their own schedule, sometimes staying for a while, sometimes just passing through, adding to the natural rhythm of the backyard.
There’s no competition, just a natural rhythm that repeats itself morning after morning.

This short video was captured in our own backyard and shows exactly how birds and squirrels interact with the fence-mounted moon feeder in real life — no staging, no filters, just a quiet morning unfolding naturally.
Designed for Real Backyards
Every backyard is different. Some are bird-focused, some are squirrel-friendly, and many are a mix of both. Fence-mounted feeders create a shared feeding space that works well in active backyards where multiple visitors come and go.
Rather than trying to control who shows up, we’ve found that allowing space for all kinds of visitors creates a more relaxed, enjoyable experience, both for the animals and for the people watching.

Why We Love Fence Feeders
Fence feeders offer a few simple advantages:
-
Easy viewing from windows, patios, or porches
-
A stable feeding surface for birds and squirrels
-
A natural gathering point that encourages repeat visits
Most importantly, they invite you to slow down and notice the small moments, the ones that often pass by unnoticed.
A Quiet Start to the Day
There’s something grounding about watching the backyard wake up. No rush. No agenda. Just birds, squirrels, and the gentle rhythm of morning.
These are the moments we love sharing, not because they’re rare, but because they’re real.
Sending you love and light,
Matt & Ryann
